With great pleasure, we inform that the Fifth International Webinar on “Recent Trends in
Statistical Theory and Applications-2021 (WSTA-2021)” in conjunction with Fourth
Annual Convention of “Statistics Fraternity Kerala (SFK)” and National Statistics Day
Celebrations-2021 is proposed to be held as Webinar during 29 June 2021 to 02 July 2021.
The event is organized by the Department of Statistics, University of Kerala, Trivandrum in
association with Indian Society for Probability and Statistics(ISPS) and Kerala Statistical
Association(KSA). Eminent Statisticians working in the prime areas of Statistics from
various parts of the country as well as from abroad have agreed to deliver talks in the webinar.
The webinar topic covers almost all areas of Statistics even though the focus of the Conference
will be on the following areas:
Clinical Trials & Biostatistics, Distribution Theory, Exploratory Data Analysis, Industrial
Statistics, Order Statistics, Official Statistics, Reliability Theory, Sampling Theory,
Statistical Inference, Stochastic Process Modeling and Time Series.
About the Webinar: The webinar aims to bring forth recent developments in the field of
Statistics and related areas, with an objective of formulating statistical strategies to solve the
newly emerging problems in key areas of the subject. The event also aims to commemorate the
contributions of Great Indian Statisticians like Professor P. C. Mahalanobis, Professor C.R.
Rao, Professor R.C. Bose, Professor S.N. Roy, Professor D. Basu, Professor U.S. Nair,
Professor K.C.S. Pillai, Professor K.R. Nair, Professor A.M. Mathai, Professor J.K. Ghosh etc.,
by organizing National Statistics Day Celebrations-2021 and a national level online quiz
programme: “Professor P.C. Mahalanobis Memorial Quiz Competition 2021” for graduate
students who are studying Statistics and Mathematics at least at complementary level.

Highlights of the webinar
• We plan to publish the Proceedings as an edited volume through a well-known publisher,
provided adequate number of original articles are received. Those who are interested to include
their papers in the Proceedings are directed to submit copies of their full paper before 28th July 2021 along with its blinded version.
• We plan to conduct Professor P.C. Mahalanobis Memorial Quiz Competition for B.Sc.
Students (who have studied statistics as Main or Subsidiary level from Indian

University of Kerala
One of the first 16 Universities in India, the University of Kerala was founded as the University
of Travancore in the erstwhile princely state of Travancore by his highness Sri. Chithira
Thirunal Maharaja in 1937. At present, the University has sixteen faculties (subject groups)
and forty two departments of teaching and research in addition to study centres and other
departments. The Manuscript Library of the University is a treasure trove of Indian culture. The
library has over 65,000 works in 30,000 copies mainly of palm leaf manuscripts, in addition to
paper manuscripts, copper plates, birch bark and textiles, which includes those belonging to
Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal etc. The Adult Education Department of the University has
received UNESCO-NLM award in 2005. The University Library established in 1942 has over
3,00,000 books and gives access to over 9000 on-line journals. The University has published an
English translation of the classic Dutch work, “Hortus Malabaricus” a 20-volume treatise on
plant wealth of Kerala, in 2003.
Department of Statistics
This department is the second oldest post-graduate department of Statistics in India, established
in 1945 based on the recommendation of a committee consisting of eminent members including
Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis. Dr. U. S. Nair was the Founder Professor of this department followed by
eminent successors Dr. Aleyamma George, Dr. R. Krishna Pillai, Dr. R. Ramakumar, Prof.
P.S.J. Nair, Dr. Jacob Sundara Raja, Dr. R. N. Pillai, Dr. T.S.K. Moothathu, Dr. P. Yageen
Thomas, Dr. G. Lesitha and Dr. C. Satheesh Kumar. The Department of Science and Technology
(DST), New Delhi has identified this department under its FIST Programme. This department
offers two PG Programmes: M.Sc. Statistics and M.Sc. Applied Statistics and Data Analytics
along with M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Statistics. This department has moulded several
reputed statisticians like Prof. K. C. S. Pillai, Prof. A. M. Mathai, Prof. Thomas Mathew and so
on. The major contributions of this department are in the areas: Distribution Theory, Inequality
measures, Order Statistics, Point estimation, Ranked Set Sampling, Reliability Theory,
Stochastic Process, Time Series etc. Research papers are published regularly from this
department in refereed journals in Statistics and have been extensively cited in the latest
